Non-profit website grabs rural web surfers, earns $125K in four months.
View Printable Version  Download Article PDF January 2009, Visalia, CA. — The American Cowboy Team Roping Association (ACTRA) reports that revenue coming into the organization through their new website reached $125,000.00 in 2008 after their site's event sign-up capability went live in late August. ACTRA is the largest non-profit team roping organization in the United States. The website, www.actra.org, sells memberships online and lets members signup for roping competitions. The site also makes it possible for roping event results to be displayed inside of 24 hours; a capability that has major appeal to the roping community. "We built the site based on what we knew the roping community wants, and they responded", said ACTRA National Secretary Shauna Fry. "Most of our active visitors and members live in outlying rural areas, so the website's popularity also puts to rest any lingering doubt about just how important the internet is to them." With around 20,000 visitors per month to the site, ACTRA.org is already an attractive niche advertising web space for businesses catering to the lifestyle of ropers and their families. ACTRA will be offering ad space on its site to California based businesses in the coming months. Fry selected Visalia, California based MJ Penner Consulting to build the website after searching for a company that could provide both an affordable solution and the marketing expertise to help ACTRA continue its success on the web. "We're about to offer their California advertisers a great online ad buy program," said MJ Penner Consulting's CEO Michael Penner. "We'll be going into an online web conference with ACTRA regional staff in the next few weeks to train them on how the ad buys work and how to explain it in non-technical terms to their advertisers. ACTRA is entering the stratosphere of non-profit online marketing endeavors. This is going to be a very good year for them." ACTRA (American Cowboy Team Roping Association) is the largest non-profit team roping organization in the United States. It was founded in 1983 and has chapters in Northern and Southern California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Oregon, Nevada, Washington, Wyoming, Texas and Oklahoma. Other areas inquiring about forming chapters are Utah, Arizona and Canada. ACTRA is owned by its members and run by its members.
